Urban Spaces for Children with Rare Genetic Mutations on the Spectrum
What is URBAS?
URBAS is an innovative program created by the Neurogenomics Research Foundation (NRF), offering a dedicated urban space for children with rare genetic mutations on the autism spectrum. This program provides a flexible, engaging environment for children to enjoy on weekdays and weekends, offering structured activities that cater to their unique needs.
Urban Accessibility for All
Designed as a companion project to FARMAS, URBAS provides a more accessible and structured option for families who live in or near urban areas. URBAS serves as a safe and vibrant space where children can explore their interests, socialize, and participate in a variety of activities designed to promote mental and physical well-being.
Key Features of URBAS:
- Daily Activity Programs: Unlike the weekend-focused FARMAS, URBAS offers structured programs throughout the week, with activities that blend recreation, learning, and skill-building.
- Tailored Experiences: Our team works closely with families to create personalized schedules that fit each child’s needs and abilities. Whether it’s art, music, or movement, URBAS is all about giving children the freedom to explore their interests.
- Social Opportunities: URBAS fosters interaction and peer engagement in a safe, supervised setting, promoting social growth and self-confidence.
- Urban Therapeutic Spaces: Specially designed sensory rooms, art studios, and gardens are some of the unique elements incorporated into the URBAS urban space to provide a calming environment for children on the spectrum.
Our Vision
URBAS is a community where children with rare neurogenomic conditions on the spectrum can have meaningful, enriching experiences outside of the school environment. We aim to create a supportive, inclusive space where these children can feel understood and inspired to grow at their own pace.
Support Our Mission
By supporting URBAS, you are contributing to the development of spaces where children can thrive in an urban setting. Your donations will help us bring this vision to more cities, ensuring that every child has the opportunity for enrichment, regardless of their circumstances.
